Singer/songwriter Richard Thompson is a true legend in the folk rock. In the 1960s he was one of the founders of the seminal Fairport Convention. After a musical and marital commitment with Linda Thompson in the 1990s, eventually he chose definitively for a solo career. After a series of pretty polished albums, that Thompson took up in the 1990s under productional leadership of Mitchell Froom, he returned on Mock Tudor (1999) back to a more rudimentary sound. That trend he puts on the successor to The Old Kit Bag. Also this time little production frills, just a man with his guitar and a backing band, all pretty right on the tape. This approach is also apparent this time to work well. A large part of this album makes in terms of urgency reminiscent of his best work of the past. It is music that is so obvious that you almost wonder why only Richard Thompson goes it makes.
