Comment from an auction: RARE 1968 release on the always-cool German Cornet label. Two artists on this one, the mysterious Jos Richards (who appears to have released nothing else) gets the topside here, and pretty much steals the melody and chord progression of "Whiter Shade of Pale" for his "What A Way to Die" (which was written by a "Charlie Weiss" anyway), while Cornet label stalwarts the Jay Five pick up the B-side for "Vive L'Amour," a STUNNING piece of FADING YELLOW sunshine pop with dancing organ, subtle fuzz and a break that's practically a homage to PET SOUNDS era Beach Boys. Musically similar (especially the horn figures) to the Turtles' "She'd Rather Be With Me," it beats just about ANYTHING off the Jay Five's album. So pick it up here and get the piercing stare of a fetching young mystery lady on the pic sleeve as an added bonus. Hideously rare.
