Maridor
After his departure from Genesis in 1975, the British singer Peter Gabriel initially seemed doomed to a status of cult artist. And although in particular his third self-titled album, released in 1980, with its transparent sound and hard forward mixed drums, practically a blueprint was for the 1980s sound, remained the great recognition. So, which appeared in 1986 as its fifth studio album (not counting the soundtrack Birdy) brought change. Helped by a playful animation-video clip, dominated that year the first single Sledgehammer months long radio and music television, followed by Don't Give Up with guest singer Kate Bush. But the whole So, which was produced by Daniel Lanois, is a strong pop album without a less number. Where his previous plates still sometimes studied and clinically sound, are ingredients like world music and heavy rhythms this time entirely in the service of melodious songs and lasting favorites like Red Rain and Mercy Street. It was the most successful album of his career.
