Ride Into The Sun is one of those bands for whom reviewing one album, applies equally to them all. I so wish that all of Ride Into The Sun’s songs had been created equally well, that all had be washed with hazy low keyed feedback, balanced with hypnotic effects, polished edges, psychedelically drifting, and wasted to the bone … however they are not. Though with a great deal of material, you’re able to create your own lush album filled with distant disembodied vocals and vertically inclined music by simply downloading these songs, and while I’m not one who prefers downloading, all of the hard copies from this Australian band who create such pure rock, and take their name from the 1972 release by Lou Reed, have long since been vanished, with few showing up on the secondary market. The aspect that so few albums show up on the secondary market is troubling to to me, causing me feel that I’m missing something by so diligently picking and choosing what songs inspire me … but I know what I like, where my head likes to rest, and there are but eleven tracks that hold my attention, tracks that create a velvety smooth atmospheric wave that totally envelops me, tracks that blend and ebb effortlessly, tracks that like warm hands slowly move across my face shutting my eyelids, tracks that allow me to wander effortlessly while bathed in a warm glow. Discovering Ride Into The Sun with the release of their single, “Lost At Sea,” a song that completely rapture me, a song so tasty that I wanted more of this sonic bliss. So allow me to suggest that you consider the following numbers “The Devil’s Soul,” “Grey Eyes,” “Give Or Take,” “Hills,” “Moon Child,” “Napoleon,” “Run For The Hills,” “Save Yourself,” “Hunt Like Wolves,” and “Lost At Sea,” all songs that don’t stray far from an intoxicating center, songs that will cradle you in comfort.Of course all this leads me to ask Ride Into The Sun, “Why hadn’t you contact me prior to ever releasing an album? And if you’re considering a compilation of your most shimmering material, then I’ve just listed all of the tracks that should be included for an adventurous trip into the hazed nether regions of the mind.”And what does this all mean? It means that while all of their albums are a bit better than average, the songs I’ve listed above are nothing short of brilliant neo-psychedelic classics that should not be missed by anyone traveling under a moon lit sky.Review by Jenell Kesler
