Eleven months with it have passed and, I feel as if I can now say with certainty, that it's another MBV album. You know if you care about that or not. Other commenters, here and elsewhere, have said, something along the lines of "it sounds like it could have been recorded in 1991-3." You should also have an idea if that matters to you or not. Personally, I feel like I waited 20 years to hear something I could have heard at any point in the past 20 years, so I can't help but feel somewhere between let down and annoyed that it sounds like MBV's sound hasn't progressed. In a vacuum, it's a good MBV album and it pushes a 4 out of 5 (compared to Loveless as a 5 and Isn't Anything as around 3.5). If Kevin only had the goal of making a good MBV album, he succeeded. That's cool. Out of the vacuum, though, I want to give it a 3 – maybe even a 2 – because I'm a contrarian and I feel like people aren't considering the context. :-

an absolute belter of an album, I cannot wait to get my mitts on the vinyl. The first truely psychadelic rock album I've heard in years. More track reviews coming soon :D
Jarortr
Is there gonna be a vinyl release of this? And if so, analog master?
Vudojar
Yes, you can still order it here, http://www.mybloodyvalentine.org/Catalogue.aspx. I'm worried about the vinyl, though. Is he really going to stick 50+ minutes on one LP?
Gold Crown
shipping date for the wax is Feb 22nd
Marilace
yes and yes!
Negal
also it is completely analog
Talvinl
I believe the vinyl is already up for sale on the site...i think you can pre order it now or whatever.
Truthcliff
Yea you can preorder from their website, but act fast cause there's a limited run on first pressings.

A masterpiece again. Different, yet closely related to the ‘Loveless’ sound. But this one is more direct, visceral, less fuzzy about perfection, deeper, and perhaps more emotionally engaging than Loveless. It grows on each listen, and as you embalm yourself in the songs they gain heft.

a near perfect album and to get out of the way what makes it not perfect is that 2 tracks end in fade outs when they feel like they could go on a bit longer. my guess is to fit the album on 1 LP.aside from that this album sounds like it could of been released 1 year after Loveless. its amazing its like no time went by in sound and no advanced new techniques were used. vocals sound identical to the style on Loveless and the experimental weirdness is definitely found here although not a rehash of the last album. so far i'v read a couple reviews while downloading this album and some say this is no Loveless or not a Loveless 2. of course it would be great to just review this album on its own merit but i'm not doing that cause to me that would be denying the exceptional uniqueness of Loveless which would also deny what makes this album so special and unique its the same magic here cause its the same special unique band. now i have not used drugs in years but what came to mind here when the album was ending is that Loveless seems like the beginning of a good acid trip and this album is where things start to peak and by the end of the album things get incredibly intense, strange and heavy. hopefully it won't take another 20 years for the next album to come out so we can see where this trip is going or ending but if it does take a ridiculously long time (or not at all) M B V is an album that i think will be equally as talked about in 20 years time just as Loveless has been talked about for the past 20 years. a truly landmark album i couldn't imagine it being any better and best of all it hit me compleatly off guard cause i didn't think a new album was ever coming out and then today i found out it did and thats the same day i got to listen to it.its just the beginning of 2013 and i think the best album of the year has arrived.
Bluecliff
Well worth the wait! can't wait until my LP arrives in the mail!
Andromajurus
yea but where can it be bought? is this a follow up to Loveless? i'm excited but these digital albums never show where they were released on discogs or how to get them.
Hiylchis
their for sale on the MBV website 16 dollars for the download. there is also a vinyl and cd for sale on the site also.
Braned
a brilliant follow up
Anarasida
Totally analogue recording and then appears just as 3 different digital downloads... ain't i'm missing the joke???
Goldendragon
Unless you are fortunate enough to enjoy a 24_96k digital version of an album that contains energy up to 32kHz
Kabei
lovely folks didn't noticed the regular album in good ol'e vinyl... maybe i'm getting a bit to old to navigate seriously through the digital world as discogs is... ;)

i can see the paradox you re pointing at but would you rather have a totally digital recording to match with the digital release instead ?and not so sure that the analog/vinyl format will help appreciate the experience in a more complete way though (loveless doesn't sound so good on vinyl for me, super hard sound to properly master for wax)... we ll see, but for now, i do appreciate the tape recording colour of the production. very coherent work perfectly serving the psychedelic dimension of mbv's sound.back to your comment, we're in 2013, that's the only joke there is here... get used to it !

Buy the vinyl for the true and intended playback experience. The digital files are in addition; a gift for people less fortunate (by not having proper audio equipment).
Siratius
The point of all analog is by buying the vinyl record which is the analog format. Playing it through your turntable and speakers. They probably did a digital mix to sell the mp3 and wav format for the vast amount of people not interested in records.
Moronydit
I refreshed for about 3-4 hours this morning to get my hands on this. Don't regret it for a second, it's a fantastic record.
