Great to see musicians like you out there, with songs that actually make sense and don't care about the mainstream stuff. Outstanding lyrics on this album, and top notch songwriting. I must agree with the words below that you do have an atmosphere of Alice Cooper / David Bowie in there, but might I add that I can also hear Roger Waters in there. Keep up the great work and the music coming! :)
Very Old Chap

It's good that one of the England's most talented still unknown musicials now is spotted and have possibilities to be listened to. A variety of songs cannot live you unconcerned. It's a good example of real cool rock. An atmosphere of Batcave, Alice Cooper, Syd Barret, T rex and David Bowie in one - just like a dark carnival. The cover adjusts our perception in a needed key.The album starts with a downbeat tune - The Empire Never Ended. Good jazz beats and a la Waits vocals. Enjoyment for the ears. Then comes a more invigorating tune with the guitar dirty plunks and rhytmically sang words. Death's Jest is a ballad respectable for Syd Barret. This baritone is amazingly wrap you up like a cobweb. This tune and My Friend Daniel are the favourites, they reveal the power of Hilrant's good voice. Life is Very Short sounds like a funeral march, but after death there must be something, maybe something absurdic or somehow pathetic? Why not? Eccentric tunes are the prerogative of England songwriters. Tong in Peach confirms the fact. Yes, sometimes it sounds like a Danny Elfman's soundtrack to a Bride Corpse, but why not? Elfman is a genius. Spike me Dudley continue the line, it's a jazzy thing with cool saxophone solos, a kind of a sombre play, just to imagine yourselves in a gloomy underground bar with cigarettes clouds of smoke and crazy jazzband on a stage. Yap, again a nod to Tom Waits style. But it's just a matter of association here. And suddenly this idillic atmosphere awaken you up with almost a punk clash sound of guitar. You cannot stay in this gloomy bar for the whole night, it will be closed after 15 minutes - the tune reminds us. But we're glad to create you this special atmosphere, Syd Barret was with us - somewhere behind the stage. It's his Weird Smile sparkled in the dark, or is it a Cheshire cat's ? After the Weird Smile I felt like Alice in a dark moory wonderland. Come on, Hilrant, show me the treasures of it, the violet landscapes. I need a guide through it, many unknown creatures may be in the dark bushes along the road, so it's easy to feel Lost. Really cool, the last tune is weird and enthralling. Can't fetch my breath after falling into the rabbit hole. Just say that it's a talented work. All the best, Paul!TillyRiddle.
