A rare Australian EP that was given away at a gig, although i remember seeing some left over copies from this On the Waterfront series being sold at the Waterfront shop, but probably only a very limited number. I believe some were also sent out as Waterfront promos explaining how they found their way into overseas markets. This EP includes 4 very interesting bands and these tracks are exclusive to this release. Itchy Rat's wonderfully titled song Attempting to Give Your Name to a Policeman While Tripping is a gem just waiting to be discovered. If you have ever tried to give your name to a police officer while peaking on acid or maybe just sat through dinner with your girlfriend's parents while tripping off your nut you will definitely relate to this song. Probably the highlight though is Eastern Dark's Stay Alone. Apparently it was recorded live "on 7 tracks in a padded cell". Was this an 8 track recorder with one broken track? The song has a great garage feel with nice distortion & feedback and reminds us of James Darrock's tragic loss in a car accident. Another fascinating inclusion is Twice Remembered / Twice Removed by Tactics. Recorded live at the Intervention Bookshop it captures Tactics frantically playing their final song moments before police raid the venue. The shop proprietors are heard asking the audience to understand that the show can't continue because police vans are gathering outside. In all of this chaos Tactics decide to play one last number... A different live version of this song can be found on "The Bones Of Barry Harrison" LP and a Studio 221 recording is included on The Sound of the Sound Vol. 1 CD compilation. Perhaps the weaker of the tracks is the Happy Hate Me Nots tune, Hurt. It certainly grows on you after a few listens, but its definitely not their finest moment on record, but a worthy inclusion. This EP is definitely worth tracking down and in my opinion its the best of the 3 volumes that were issued.
