Notes
On Valentine’s Day 1989 club owner Larry Bloch first opened the doors of Wetlands Preserve on Hudson St, in New York s Tribeca district. Bloch had conceived Wetlands as a live music and nightclub venue that would fund his environmental activist collective and their projects; over time, the venue became one of the most respected in America. The intimate atmosphere and ability to play all night long made it integral part of the jam band revival during the 90s, with Dave Matthews, The Spin Doctors and Phish all performing regular shows. On the 23rd of March 1993 it was the turn of Blind Melon. Released in 1992 Blind Melon's eponymous debut album was a slow-burning hit. Distinctly different in it’s throwback sound to the contemporary indie-rock acts that were either part of or inspired by the Seattle scene, Blind Melon had been widely anticipated; the group’s performance at the MTV 120 minutes tour in the spring of 92 had made waves across the industry. When the No Rain single achieved heavy airplay on MTV into 1993, both the album and single were propelled up the charts, No Rain hit the number one spot while Blind Melon climbed to number three. With a successful album in the bank Blind Melon dedicated 1993 to building their profile through touring, opening for A-list acts including The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Lenny Kravitz. In March 93 their gigging schedule brought them to Wetlands. Screamin' At The Sun presents that show in full, broadcast live on WNWK-FM, it is the essential record of one of the 90's most important, innovative bands right at the time that they started to breakthrough.Barcode and Other Identifiers
