To my great delight, finally the Yachts have a worthy compilation spanning their whole 2 album career with all the singles and assorted tracks included. Aptly named "Suffice To Say" this 3 CD box consists of the debut album "Yachts" and sophomore work "Without Radar", complete with the compilation disc of their studio and live performances that can be found on their various singles, (also seen as a separate product (CD-r) named "Complete Singles Collection") but here with the title "Singles & Rarities".All 3 CDs stand on their own although the singles collection isn't naturally as coherent as the two official albums, having an array of live performances sprinkled thru the track list. It's nonetheless a nice way to package the odd tracks as the entire albums would suffer from added tracks that might not fall into the overall mood the albums have. Great tracks are left behind to be single B-sides nonetheless, some of which I'd prefer as A-sides myself, most notably the live only release "Permanent Damage" which is one of the best songs by the Yachts and strangely only limited as a live performance B-side to the 7" of "Box 202" (which also is absolutely magnificent track itself, telling an oddball love story about a plane crash, so not perhaps the best single to be lamenting about the song order since both tracks are catchy killers..) The singles collection also has 7" versions of "Box 202", "I Can't Stay Long", "Yachting Types" and the signature song "Suffice To Say", a 7" only release that has been included on many punk collections before and as the first hit of the Yachts has its place here as the name of the whole compilation as well. The official albums "Yachts" and "Without Radar" are both excellent but clearly the debut record is the best one, having the biggest amount of catchy power pop songs and even greater drive than the second one, although throughout the bands output that certain drive can be easily heard onto which term power pop truly fits like no other, right from the first ever song "Suffice To Say"to the last, dub influenced experiment "Dubmarine" and "Do The Chad" which was released as the Chuddy Nuddies. Not really a weak track in their repertoire I can only recommend this very nicely packed compilation to everyone who enjoys witty, dark humour and cynical lyrics, catchy tunes and that late 70's new wave/power pop sound that is simple and straightforward, very uptempo and uplifting. One of the best bands that have come from the British Isles for sure, and Liverpool, for that matter.
