I recently purchased a sympathy reissue but mine is black vinyl and black label. Don't see a release here for it. Same catalog# as the 2004s. Sftri 740 but with Barcode 9027607401. Generic inner. Sounds great with no noise problems. Any clue when this was reissued?

does anyone think the first press of this sounds terrible? its not surface noise wise just horribly mastered terribly distorted. its almost unlistenable?
ᴜɴɪᴄᴏʀɴ
I wouldn't call it unlistenable, but it is certainly distorted. Maybe that's what they were going for?

Yes, red label (US) doesn't sound good at all, the white label (US) sounds better, still weak though.
Gri
Nope. I think it sounds amazing! If you are referring to the red label 1st pressing. Yeah the bass could have been a bit louder more present in the mix, and it is a bit distorted in some songs but i think it sounds great! Gives it a bit of a psychocandy edge before psychocandy.

I've been said this is the second pressing (and first one being the white label ones) : this one do have a barcode, while the "white label" ones has no barcode
Yananoc
The red label is the 1st pressing. The white label cover states that it's also available on cassette with 5 extra tracks from "Death Party", which was released in 1983.

I have the APE 6001 white label with no barcode, a cutout I bought in 1982 or 83. Back cover says distributed by Jem Records Inc., no reference to Chrysalis as distributor.
