Liner Notes:
It took us a whole day to drive to Ca-Va studios in Glasgow because the car couldn't get above 50 with the wight of me, John and Ant and our guitars. The first songs we started on were 'Sweetness Lies Within', 'Sad Witch' and 'Stud Farm'. The mandolin part on 'Sad Witch' hurt my hands and the handclaps finished them off.John Morrison was adamant that there should be a clang on 'studfarm', so that's him you can hear hitting a gas cylinder. Antony Harding had a cold which prevented him singing for a few days but John kept making him lemsips until he was able to break our hearts with his second vocal on 'Librarian'. John was elated when Tony fixed his acoustic bass so that he was able to use it on 'Hymn'. Our friends Gayle Harrison and John Cavanagh dropped by to help us out on 'Hymn', 'Better Friend' and 'Eloping' and there was a fair amount of whisky involved with their contributions. Stuart Murdoch also managed to pop by and lend his hands. I Played my guitar throught jennifers little red battery amp on 'God is on my side' and that's her acoustic on 'Hymn'. Jen also took the photo on the back (me and Ant took the rest). Although he wasn't present Matthew Hein should be credited for some of the arrangement of 'Librarian' .
