This EP is a bit schizophrenic. “Motsand I Lader” on the A-side has the same post punk/cold wave sound of UDL’s first EP and collaborative LP with ATT SOM and the two tracks that make up the B-Side being pure, fast paced Swedish hardcore punk. To me, this is a winning combination. When UDL focuses on the slower, colder vein of punk they are reminiscent of their country men CORTEX (who, oddly, share a member with Swedish punk gods, Anti-Cimex). UDL’s brooding vocals backed with the bleak, simplistic guitar riff and repeating base line bring to mind a cold, barren landscape similar to what the four on the EP cover are facing. The faster, more aggressive tracks of the B-Side on the other hand are perfect for rowdy, pogo punks that have a penchant for glue bags. While not in the same vein at the aforementioned Anti-Cimex, these tracks combine the speed of American 80`s hardcore and the Scandi influences of bands like Finland’s Lama. Simply put, these two tracks shred. This is a great EP for punks that can appreciate various spectrums of the genre.
