On this album, Disentomb attempt to hybridise Nu-Metal/Rap grooves with a style that has some very loose aesthetic similarity to Death Metal. It is of critical importance to note that this is not actually Death Metal - it merely attempts to mimic some of the more obvious elements of Death Metal. The result is poor, with meandering structures, uninspired/lacklustre riffs, and an atmosphere that would only appeal to fans of very modern sounding metal. The drumming incorporates elements of Pantera/Slipknot-style groove metal, "slam", and alternates between this rap-core feeling and very generic blasting. The bass guitar, as expected, reinforces the jumpsuit/nu-metal/slam drumming, contributing lines that lack any of the sinister atmosphere of legitimate Death Metal expressions. When the slam breakdowns are done, the rhythm section consistently launch into uninspired blasting sections, where guitars chug away with riffs that generally end in some kind of harmonic. The music seems to have more in common with Rap than it does with Death Metal (Disentomb actually have released a tour video, and the band can be seen listening to rap music on their tour bus, which perhaps explains the prominence of "groove" in the music).Vocals are guttural and very nondescript - virtually identical to almost every slam/"Brutal" Death Metal/rapcore band who make similar music. Vocal patterns seem to emulate the more "tough guy" rapping of New York Hardcore bands. While some people who enjoy the aforementioned influences might like this CD, it is not recommended to people who enjoy Death Metal. If I could give this album less than one star, I would.
