It's no secret that the B-sides of pop singles contain sometimes hidden treasures for the lover of the strange and bizarre. Just today I found in my pile of second hand singles a really dark story by french mainstream artist Michel Sardou. While I bought the single for the (weak) A-side with french blondie Mireille Darc, an icon of 70's cinema, all lips, hair and sweet smile, it's the flip side that values my time. Sardou starts with a plea to find his wife, but not to call his parents, he would not support their tears, as his mother would be afraid of his blood. To mystic theremin synthesizers, female background vocals from hell and much drama, Sardou goes on about how to find the number of his wife in the glove compartment of his car, and how he hopes he didn't kill anybody. Obviously, he's laying somewhere, after an accident, and he's insulted by strangers, why, he does not know. One must assume they are relatives of his victims. If he dies, he does not know - neither do we, as the single ends after 4 minutes to the screech of sirens, probably the ambulance or patrol cars. Really very dark stuff for the mainstream.
