Never heard of jazzpianist Willie "the Lion" Smith before, until I met him between a pile of records in the one euro crates. I've added a couple of photo's which weren't there yet and now it's time to add a review too. Wiliie's piano play is called 'Stride Style' and he's the champion. Close your eyes and you're in one of Charlie Chaplin's dumb movies. The compositions on this record are the result of worked out sessions at the house of his producer Sherman Fairman. They had a very close relationship.To conclude it's great fun having a record like this and let's remember that the Danish record company Storyville is the oldest independent Jazzlabel in Europe, established in 1952.
