Jef Gilson, whose real name is Jean-François Quiévreux, sure had a special talent for discovering and bringing together around his musical projects the most talented figures of the young French jazz scene. You can juge for yourself based on the line-up of this early little record that came out as soon as 1963 : Michel Portal, Jean-Claude Petit, Henri Texier, Jacques Thollot, Ivan Jullien, Bernard Vitet, François Jeanneau, Jean-Louis Chautemps, Jean-Luc Ponty… they are all going to become representative figures of the French pop and/or jazz scene during the forthcoming years and most of them appear here for the first time on a record !Music itself is already far away from the standards of the time - not talking about the artwork ! - already flirting with a proto free jazz (Sun Ra influence on B1?) and a hints of was to become jazz-rock (Jean-Luc Ponty appearing as himself on B2). A document this is!
