Review from Audion #46 (2002)...A new discovery from Soleil Zeuhl, a one-man Zeuhl band - no less! François is an adept pianist foremost, reminding me of Art Zoyd's Patricia Dallio or Present's Alan Rochette, with nimble Stravinsky-esque ramblings drawing together the percussion and bass, all given a little more flair by some slightly Frippian guitar work (where needed). Few of the compositions tend to stand out individually, however, as the whole album (seven tracks) seems to mix and match various themes, all hybrid snatches of much Zeuhl you may have heard before, bits of Art Zoyd, Univers Zero, Potemkine and ZAO particularly, as well as some other touches, hints of Samla Mammas Manna and Henry Cow too. My only misgiving is that it does get a little funky in parts, and never gets aggressive or bizarre enough to rival the greats. It weaves its own web of solos, counterpoints and progressions, with a wealth of dazzling musicianship, which will certainly satiate most Zeuhl aficionados!
