Supraphon Release InformationThe 2-DVD box set captures memorable concerts and guides you through the history of two seminal Czech rock bands: the Matadors and Blue Effect. A veritable audio-visual feast! The first DVD comprises a recording of an exceptional concert given in March 2007 at the Lucerna Music Bar in Prague by the members of the legendary Matadors, the early Blue Effect, the variant Modrý Efekt and M. Efekt, and the contemporary line-up backing the veteran front man. Radim Hladík and his young Turks, Křížek, Říha and Zima (+ other guests), played part of the show themselves and also accompanied the original members Viktor Sodoma, Jan F. Obermayer, Vladimír Mišík, Lešek Semelka and Oldřich Veselý on the most famous songs. They delivered a total of nineteen pieces in the packed concert hall. The second DVD is a guided tour through the history of the Matadors and Blue Effect, from silent rarities through the Nové syntézy (New Syntheses) up to the present day. Television and private archives bear witness to the sheer idiocy of the times and the sheer excellence of the music, ranging from black-and-white clips of three-minute songs to sprawling orchestral twenty-minute pieces with a big band. The Matadors outdoors at Prague’s Riegr Gardens and in Belgium; Blue Effect at the New Club, Lucerne, in the Television Youth Club programme, and in the rehearsal room prior to the reunion concert. The sleeve is designed in the retro-magazine style, while the menu continues in an equally sophisticated spirit. Radim Hladík and the director Markéta Nešlehová spent hundreds of hours selecting the most significant music and remastering the sound and pictures.Live & Life: A significant chapter in Czech rock’s musical and human history on two splendid DVDs!
