Apparently the same Maelstrom as Màelstrom* - Maelstrom, although there is only one member in common: James Larner, this is a prime example of "What's in a band name?" as ther'e no musical connection whatsoever. Whereas the 1973 recording was prog with a hint of Van der Graaf, this is anything but prog. It's experimental jazz, avant-garde and classical/jazz hybrids. It does have its moments, but largely veers too close to free jazz for my taste. Even odder is the fact that Maelstrom switched back to prog again in 1979.
