Rights societies: GEMA on center labels, BMI and ASCAP in gatefold.

℗1981 Prestige Records, Tenth and Parker, Berkeley CA 94710 (rear sleeve)

Double LP combining two sessions (April 20, 1957, disk 1; March 22, 1957, disk 2), previously released as John Coltrane "Dakar" (Prestige 7280, disk 1) and Interplay For 2 Trumpets And 2 Tenors (Prestige 7112, disk 2); C.T.A. (C1) first released in Art Taylor "Taylor's Wailers" (Prestige 7117).

As Coltrane's fame grew during the 1960's after he had stopped recording for Prestige, the label assembled, retitled, and reissued Coltrane's 50's session work under his name. Record one of this 2lp set is a reissue of Dakar as released in 1963 on Prestige Records, catalog 7280, which was a reissue of one side of a 16 rpm Prestige 1957 release (PRLP 16-6) called "Baritones and French Horn" that was originally credited to the Prestige All Stars. Record two is also a Prestige All Stars reissue, a 1957 release called "Interplay For 2 Trumpets And 2 Tenors".

All tracks published by Prestige Music-BMI, except C1, which is published by ASA Music-ASCAP.

Jode
Recorded just two days after the music used on "The Cats" album, this is another release retrospectively issued under Coltrane's name when he wasn't the original leader. This was originally recorded as "The Prestige All Stars" album and formed one half of a record named "Baritones and French Horns" but released later under Coltrane's name to cash in on his status once he had left the label. There's some good playing on it, and it's worth a listen, but I'm not overly keen on it.
