Daniel J. White continues to amaze me with every new composition of his that I hear. This man just has a huge talent for crafting classy, jazzy music. This album is pretty much vibraphone and flute jazz with a medium-sized band. It has a really nice rhythm section with strong bass and groovy jazz drums, and works in mostly quick tempos, but has a few slow pieces for a change of pace. The background is layered with beautiful Clavichord playing, while the flute and vibraphone take the leads here, with the occasional Clav solo. I'm a huge fan of vibraphone and flute in general, and when they're often used in the same track, well, that's even better! White just does a fantastic job crafting interesting lines for all of these wonderful instruments. This music is very much the happening and cool sound of the 70s. You can imagine the coolest jazz musicians of the day playing this at some posh get together with beautiful women and expensive champagne!Oh yeah, and there's a B-side to the LP, by Alan Feanch! Not to take anything at all away from him, because he is a very skilled composer in his own right, but sadly, I haven't been exposed to a ton of his music yet. After hearing his take on jazz band here, I will definitely continue the hunt for his work. On this LP, he showcases some solid composing skills. More vibes, more clav, more drums and bass and more goodness! The album remains a solid listen throughout the B-side and is a lovely one to put on and play at night with a nice cup of coffee.I would highly recommend this one for anyone interested in mid-70s library jazz, especially featuring the use of vibraphone, clav and flute. Give it a listen, you may really dig this cool and happening sound! 5 out of 5 :)
