Mamuro
‘On Broadway’, recorded on January 22, 1963. The group had a change in personnel, with Eugene Pearson replacing Dock Green as the bass vocal. The song was put together by Leiber and Stoller, working with Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. The upshot was another wonderful tale of New York and the man who would struggle to eventually succeed. Phil Spector played the cutting guitar that played off against the massed horns and strings in the interval. A No.9 US hit which also made No.7 on the R&B chart, the song was backed by a Burt Bacharach / Hal David number – ‘Let The Music Play’. Until the girl decides to stay, that is. Two very fine tracks with Rudy Lewis on lead vocals.
