Surely in any P-Funk lovers top 5, if not No. 1... You couldn't ask for a more defining example; possibly the funkiest, hook laden, synth tweakin' freak- pop the group ever put out. With Bootsy on drums, Junie on keys & arrangement, Michael Hampton & Garry Shider on guitar, George & the gang on vocals, it's a stone cold killer. The Funkadelic & Parliament sounds were quite easily separated; Casablanca's influence on the Parliament side welding the funk with radio play sensibility & pop writing, while Funkadelic loosely drew influence from psychedelia, rock, country/folk & anything else... Here its as if the Casablanca/Parliament formula spilled over into Funkadelic, as either ensemble could have put name to this. At the time It was as bigger hit as any Parliament release, in fact as big as any alternative funk release. Now, its perhaps at its most well known, thanks to the internet, and thanks of course to Prince Paul & De-La Soul for nabbing the hook for 'Me Myself & Eye', admittedly where I first heard it, aged 15.The full 15.23 version will transport you some place else, on a psychotic trip disguised as a gentle ode to 'doing the nasty', reaching heights few could reach along the way. An absolute masterpiece.
