Notes

Coproduction "OR.E.A. & R.D.M."

Supported by the ultra-funky keyboard playing of Wally Badarou (Grace Jones, Level 42), Michel Alibo’s bass, Claude Namur’s drumming and Julien Constance’s vocals, Biguine Inferno, written and produced by the Martinique-born Erick Orville while he was at art school in Paris (Orville was the only non-professional musician in the band, but the architect of its success), is a whirling dervish of a dance track which provides a singular view of the condition of French West Indians in France. Although this track was initially performed on release on Patrick Blanc Francard’s “Bananas” show on Radio France, it was quickly removed from the playlist because its lyrics were judged too subversive, and it certainly didn’t enjoy the success it deserved. The radio show host even received some insulting phone calls!
