Very similar sound to HANY MEHANNA Lp, but this (Sami Rageb) probably even better
Jek
With a little imagination and a hookah pipe, the story may well have went down like this....conjure being stuck in a tiny gritty cafe on a dimly lit street on the outskirts of Cairo; some players in this belly dance troupe....particularly the violinist, oudist, clarinet and zill players were stuck in the Gaza Strip when a desert storm hit the region, and couldn’t make it to the scheduled performance. Thus the remaining Arabic “power trio” deemed the show must go on....They start to play a strange wild blend of spooky/erie church organ/farfisa stylings, accompanied by percussion (tabla, tambourine) with cymbals (riq), and oriental drum (tablalady) with breaks, stops and starts and tempo changes all creating a trance raga psych mini-freakout if you can relate. With only keys and drums, very basic and stripped down to the bare basics of essential listening, yet gloriously evoking a sound not readily heard by most....while lots of dark-skinned guys with thick moustaches and cigars (smoke so thick you need a chainsaw to cut through the atmospheric ambiance) are discussing the business of the day. The belly dancer made it to the show as she swings around the joint with the men smiling her way....” (to be continued at your place...invite some friends to your Middle Eastern trance hop; and if you play it loud just make sure you invite all your neighbors, being certain to envelope them in a thick cloudy mass of suspended particles). Ok, only those heavily into Middle Eastern music, who can feel the psych-i-ness need apply. In other words if like belly dance, Turkish psych, Berberian, etc; also DJs looking to trance the dance and flip the circumstance might be interested. Crazyb/w cover with the belly dancer miniaturized on the creepy keyboard adds to the side effects created by the sound and smoke mix of the party!
