This is a brilliant album, I first saw this in a record shop in Saudi Arabia of all places! Being a folk fan I bought it, love to hear these songs since I worked for a few years on the railways myself, back in the sixties. I still have the vinyl LP, stored in the loft at present, but must get round to buying a phono and dig it out! Is Don Bilston still performing? He must be getting on a bit now.

A fascinating album both for anyone interested in industrial history or just damned fine folk music, the musicianship is superb and ably produced by Bill Leader, the spoken word introductions to some of the songs are witty with a dose of pathos for the passing of the steam age. Above all, it is Bilston's strong voice and authenticity as a genuine 'man of steam' that transcend this record to being a great. One of my top ten LPs of all time, which is saying something.
