An all round acid corker from Mr Heckmann. All 4 tracks are on the slower, more funky side of things but do the business, especially when pitched up. "Nozomi 303" has a snarly acid riff running all the way through it, offset by some spacey synths floating around in the background. "Black Dope" is the fastest track on the EP, starting with a rolling no nonsense bassline and an offbeat repetitive percussive noise, which starts to sound like it's falling over itself as the various rhythm elements of the track are introduced. There are high pitched acid lines that start and stop throughout and overall the track sounds very 'busy'. This is my least favourite of the 4 tracks. "Halcyon Days" is a great little funky acid number which I can imagine would go down a storm in the right setting and at the right time of night. It's not full-on acid but there's lots of crazy percussion going on, including a cow bell I think (which I'm not usually a fan of) but it all just works so well and this track really grew on me.For me, "Acidulent" is the pick of the bunch. It reminds me of Hardfloor, especially the way the acid line is faded in almost from the start. It's a basic but lively main acid line, tweaked into all sorts of bubbling, squawky variations. Sometimes, simple works best, which is the case here. All in all, I think this is a great release. And on orange vinyl too! :)
