Whatever
Twilight 22 / Electric Kingdom is missing. One of the best electro song.
Sharpbinder
Also, the version of NEWCLEUS "Computer Age" is the standard 12" version. There is a longer promo only version that would have been nice to have on cd, but only from master tapes please!!!
Ballazan
Just looking at the track list, I can say that 3/4 of these tracks have been featured on other cd compilations over the years. Would have been nice to have some more obscure tracks on cd.

there are 2 reasons why you'll want the CD.We Come To Rock (Energize Edit) is a desperately needed edit of a flawed electro classic. DJs have always played the scratch mix or the dub mix, never the club mix. you WANT to play the club mix, because a few of the rhymes are absolutely blinding... unfortunately, the good rhymes are interspersed with cheesy vocals. you have 2 options: a) mix out before the vocals come in... if you do this, you won't get to hear the good rhyme that follows ("the girl was dressed / she looked so FRESH!"). b) play the bad vocals anyway and pray the dance-floor doesn't empty... so what do we have here? Joey has rearranged all the best rhymes from the club mix, backed them up with heavy vocoder, while the scratch/dub mixes provide covering fire. the best parts of the club/scratch/dub have been combined into one almighty dance-floor weapon!Kosmic Light Force - Mysterious Waves doesn't need an introduction. love it or hate it, this was in dire need of a repress.now on to the reasons why you won't want this CD. look at the track-listing. most of these tracks have been done to death. there is way too much overlap with the other electro compilations:Absolutely... The Very Best Of Electro (features Freak-A-Zoid, Feel The Force)Mastercuts: Classic Electro Vol. 1 (features Al Naafiysh, The Smurf)King Of The Beats 1 & 2 (features Al-Naafiysh, Just Give The D.J. A Break)Street Jams: Electric Funk (features Release Yourself (Dub)Best Of Electro Vol. 1 (features Breakin' In Space, The Party Scene)not to mention the Street Sounds series, which featured almost all these tracks for me personally, the real low point of this CD is High Noon. there are hundreds of 80s electro tracks that deserve to be reissued on compilation CDs. High Noon is not one of them... this song is so bad, and 'Give Me My Money' isn't much better. what about 'Terminator' by Kid Frost? 'Project 5' by Synergy? The Brothers Supreme? Byron Davis & The Fresh Krew? The Empyre? Steve Masters? Rusty P '& Sure Shot 3?besides the 2 gems I mentioned, this is a fairly medicore electro compilation. all the tracks have been loudefied, limited and squashed by overly aggressive compression.

totally agree its seems the norm on modern compilations i dread buying them seems every compilation in the 2000 years are took from vinyl.
VAZGINO
You say "High Noon" has never been on cd before but I believe UNIDISC of Canada issued it. Also--did joey use the master tapes or is this comp a vinyl rip as some of his other comps are? Having a track on a cd that was ripped from vinyl Is NOT the same as having it on cd from the master tapes.
MEGA FREEDY
The other thing to keep in mind is that a lot of comps now don't utilize master tapes, and are in fact vinyl rips. There is no way I am paying for a cd with vinyl rips. Labels need to stop this practice at once, or at least put disclaimers on the cd's.

I totally agree with you, Shodan_2114. I had the same feeling while listening to the two CDs. The compilation is not band, but generally underwhelming. (Just, as you said 3 out 5 stars, which is a bit better than mediocre). I am a regular buyer of old compilations and bought half of the aforementioned CD compilations from the 1990s for each about 3 pounds online (in good to fair condition). So is there really the need to make such a compilation? (Especially when regarding the other really good Joey Negro CDs)? For me, not really. By the way: I didn't give a review, but gave the compilation a 2 out of 5 after several listens... (and I am not a hardcore electro freak, just the occasional listener, normally I am into Garage/NY house). So, being selective and giving advice to other possible buyers IS NOT clutching at straws in my opinion....
Delan
I'm not clutching at straws... of the compilation appearances I mentioned, ALL of them feature the exact same version which appears on this CD. full length tracks, not mixed, not remixes. you can check the discogs database yourself... type in an artist, filter by Appearances > Compilations > ctrl + F > type in the track title > highlight all. this filters out any mixed versions. after that, you can subtract the short radio edits and remix versions manually, which is exactly what I did in my previous comment.
Kefym
You're still clutching at straws. Of those compilations how many are the exact same version? How many are the same length and not faded early? How many of them are mixed rather than being stand alone tracks? Once you take those out, you'll find your list shrinks rather rapidly. Also, you have to factor in shipping charges if you're going to buy all those separate CDs. How many of those are overseas releases? That'll cost even more. To get the full length versions of all of these tracks would cost a lot and you didn't manage to find Two Sisters "High Noon" elsewhere, so you listed it as "original 12" costs pennies". Well, we all know we can get the vinyl, but if we want a CD, how does that help anyone? It does get tiresome when people pull these releases apart. There are very few companies making physical CDs now and we need to support the people who do.Regarding your comment about "Mysterious Waves". Go and buy one of the other "dirt cheap easily obtainable CDs" with it on. Good luck with that!
Lcena
with the exception of "Absolutely...", all of those compilations are dirt cheap. it doesn't really matter how long ago they were released. they might be out of print, but they are still easily available.you say I'm clutching at straws. you say these tracks haven't been done to death. oh boy...Al Naafiysh (The Soul) appears on over 50 compilations. it's been featured on everything from the Global Underground comps to the GTA: Vice City soundtrack...Just Give The DJ A Break (Dub Mix) appears on the Dance Classics compilation and the original 12" costs pennies.High Noon original 12" costs pennies.Computer Age (Push The Button) appears on 4 other compilations. The Smurf appears on 37 compilations.Rain Forest appears on over 20 compilations.Breakin' In Space appears on 9 compilations.Freak-A-Zoid appears on 22 compilations.Scorpio appears on 34 compilations.and so on...I'm sorry I didn't end my review on a more positive note. Joey Negro has set the bar so high with previous releases. his other compilations are full of ultra-rare, hard-to-find tracks which truly would cost an arm and a leg to buy individually - and by that standard, I am disappointed. I respect the fact that this is a "personal" selection. obviously this is a great selection if you are only just beginning to get into electro music. but for your average electro fan who already has half of these tracks, this compilation feels a bit unnecessary.I think it's fair to point out overly-aggressive compression in CD releases. see for yourself... here is the waveform of 'Mysterious Waves' : http://i.imgur.com/2Nn72xG.png1 star subtracted for "done to death", 1 star subtracted for the lack of dynamic range... objective and fair.

I don't often respond to people's comments but that's a really negative and unfair spin. Two Sisters "High Noon" is an all-time classic and as far as I'm aware it has never been on CD before. It's a great track and the main reason I bought this. I don't have a problem with you not liking it, because that's subjective opinion. We all like different things. But the rest of your review is a really negative and opinionated review. I disagree with it totally. You say; "there are 2 reasons why you'll want the CD" - No, there aren't. That's only your opinion."now on to the reasons why you won't want this CD... most of these tracks have been done to death" - No, they are not reasons why I don't want it and they haven't been "done to death". Some have been included on CDs which are long out of print. You really had to clutch at straws for your examples. To use your examples:"Absolutely... The Very Best Of Electro" came out in 1997. That's 20 years ago."Mastercuts: Classic Electro Vol. 1" came out in 1994. That's 23 years ago."King Of The Beats" came out in 1997. That's 20 years ago."Street Jams: Electric Funk" came out in 1992. That's 25 years ago. (This was a USA release)"Best Of Electro Vol. 1" came out in 1995. That's 22 years ago.So, all your examples are long out of print - over 20 years ago! You also go on to say "....not to mention the Street Sounds series, which featured almost all these tracks", but that series wasn't even on CD. So that's hardly relevant. To buy all those separate CDs you mentioned now would cost a lot of money. To get 20 tracks of this calibre on a double CD for £13.99 (current UK Amazon price) is a bargain. For Joey Negro to bring physical product out of Electro tracks from over 30 years ago and which many are long out of print should be applauded, not condemned in such a harsh manner. I'm grateful people are still going to this effort and I will challenge anyone who adds an unfair negative slant which might put people off bothering in future. Try to be fair.
