DJ Dark-E ‎– FlashbackStarts off with nice jump/tek/hard house classics followed by some REAL hardstyle from probably the best era of that said genre – real hardcore stuff! Then the music shifts into more recent hardstyle that does not meet the requirements of the term "flashback" if you ask me. And these newer tracks do indeed lack some of the originality the older ones managed to possess.During track #15 we hear the word "controlled" a few times too many. There's something about these anthem songs made for a party that I never quite got: usually, a song becomes a classic that the crowd appreciates over the time; kind of spontaneously. The DJ keeps it in his box, plays it a time after a time and the crowd goes eventually bonkers on it. Nowadays, these taylor-made "smashers" just – by some magic – MUST become instant hits at the particular party they were made for! It's fake and plastic to me. And what about that track #17? Trying too hard to make a new "Words from the Gang", anyone? Yes, if you ask me. It doesn't seem "real"; sincere. Just pushing too hard to make a legendary track and so it becomes pretentious. Didn't like the vocals on #21, either. Oh, wait: it was "MC" Villain. Nevermind.Track #22 was the only one I never could and still can't stomach – I had to skip it, but luckily it was the only occasion on this CD! This song is probably even more atrocious than "Bleeding for the Harder Styles" and that's much said! But then the sound transforms back into more old-school stuff and I'm quite satisfied till the end. I've heard better flashback sets (e.g. Reverze from some years ago) and much more enjoyable sets on the jump/tek disc of Qontinent, Bassleader and Decibel compilations, too. Mark with a K's Qontinent 2015, for example, is mostly hardstyle as well. The main focus (or the complete focus, if you ask me!) should be on jumpstyle, but – hey! – times, they are a-changin'...
