I found this record in my local Goodwill for $1, never heard of the artist before and decided to buy it on a whim. When I got home and looked it up I was a bit disappointed. I'm not a big fan of hip hop, as listed in the genre. But I gave it a spin anyway. Side A was right on the money with my expectations. It was hip hop and in my opinion very disappointing, repetitive, and simply boring. But Side B was a total surprise. Like night and day. Cheerleader (Kaos Dark Star Mix) (Extended Version) is hauntingly beautiful. It has a simple moving beat that is deep and dark, ghostly lyrics, and subtle, distant instruments that provide a perfect accent without over-powering the feeling of the music. If I had to compare it to other artists, I would say it's a cross between Underworld, David Bowie, and maybe The Cure. 3 stars for side A and 5 stars for side B.
