The other reviews are bang on the money. These three records were foundational, used and abused over and over, with some very special permutations found along the way.
Cargahibe
If you went to the clubs / raves, or checked out the radio during the year or 2 before this compilation came out then you knew every track before buying. Everybody wanted a copy. The promos were 1 per shop - they were like gold. If you had these tunes in ya bag before release - dub, test press or promo then you were the Don! This is classic business.
Jube
I'm very surprised that no-one has commented on this album yet...1996 was the year of crazy over the top basslines and this is no exception, but they're broken up by imaginative vocal and musical sampling and excellent drum experimentation including plenty of amen. What's particularly striking about this collection is the large range of musical influences - it's like a musical stew! Each tune happily switches between late night rave (The Source) to P-Funk (True Grit) to outrageous jump up (Warp Ten)but I suppose the underlying vibe is a hip-hop one. From an era when a lot of drum and bass artists were doing the jazz vibe to death and taking themselves a bit too seriously, it was refreshing to see the Ganja Cru just concentrating on rocking the dance!
Conjuril
Sloofman's nailed it, jungle back int' day might not have had the sound quality and the mastering that DnB and Dubstep display these days, but those producers had ideas and the tunes go through loads of stages within each track (rather than milking one simple idea for 9 minutes!). That said, the jazzy, serious stuff was pretty special too :)
