Wat!?
Always thought Mute 98 was so deep - there are no melodies really - it has a very spacey, grey(?) mix - there's a real Kraftwerk influence in the descending sound like the "train passing" on Trans Europe Express.I always ignored Convoy but I am listening to the vinyl as I type this and re-assessing it.

I´m wondering that no one has written a comment to this classical masterpiece of Drum & Bass history. To be honest I´m not a big fan of the late 90s when it comes to DnB as I prefer the more early-mid 90s "Breakbeat, Jungle" era but this release was and still is an exception for me. In my eyes the standout track is "Convoy" with its weird, scientific and steppin´ drum programming. It fits so well to the dark & hypnotizing synth melodies and arrangements. For me this is the perfect soundtrack for some real late night subway trip. The flipside with "Mute ´98" has a different style. This one has a more straight and minimal drum programming combined with some futuristic synth and fx sounds. I love this track too but the flipside is definately my favorite.Whereas "Convoy" has a kind of organic atmosphere by using old funk breakbeats, "Mute" sounds kind of electric. To sum it up: This is definately a "must have" record for everyone who loves the real Drum & Bass sound.
