Yes, its a an anthology of Techno's most important producer. Yes, it's lavishly packaged and yes, it's stupidly rare now, but I've never figured out why so many of the tracks are little more than snippets (why chop "Emanon" in two, for instance?), especially those that I'd never heard of before and wanted to hear more of. Another thing is the awful pressing quality (in my copy at least), which makes it impossible to listen to the (admittedly poor) Juan Atkins remix of "Wiggin". That said, this has everything you could really want to hear: "Strings..." (both versions are sublime), "It Is What It Is", "Nude Photo", "Drama", "The Beginning", "Icon"... If you ever come across this or the CD version, buy it, buy it, buy it, even if it leaves you skint - Derrick May's output is THAT crucial.
