the question remains whether being aware of the fact that the sex was being recorded led them to unconsciously be louder and more excessive during their sex (e.g. in their moaning) which in turn would lower the authenticity of the samples used and hence the authenticity of the entire release...

agree with above comment. the concept of this record is far better than the end product. i dont believe for a second that all of the sounds are from their shagging either, the drum sounds, for example, are either very very well disguised slapping noises or they're just regular snares and kicks. if the noises are all real sex noises, he hasnt done them justice as the end result sounds obvious and even derivitive of a few hardcore/jungle records from the early nineties. boo!

Looking from the side of Venetian Snares, this release is definitely a step down. As creative, versatile and aggressive as Aaron Funk was, here he concentrated on a single rather primitive idea - sampling sex sounds. Yes, these sounds are clearly recognizable through all 6 tracks, especially "Blood on the Rope" and "Pervs". But the music itself is rather simple (in scale of Aaron's potential, of course - many many others would die to produce such a record). Rachael's ambient parts are nicely integrated into the pattern but are not a critical improvement to the record. Overall, it's listenable, but will be a disappointment to VS fans.
