During the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE, The Netherlands) in october 2017 Chuck Roberts was invited to open the event. In an interview he told some details about his speech. In 1987 he was contacted by the producer of the track (Tony Lewis) to explain to the public what house music means. The speech was done in 5 takes and came straight from the heart according to Roberts.

wow, the tune that plays after the acapella is insanely good. I really wish there was a whole version like that! I don't think the acapella has anything to do with larry heard's production though, because every part is in the other mixes - just not arranged as well.

When you think about the timeless and most essential vocals on the history of dance music, several names may come into your mind: Sinnamon, Bernard Fowler from NYC Peech Boys, Byron Stingily from Ten City, Robert Owens, Colonel Abrams, and of course, Chuck Roberts, the guy behind the seminal vocals about House Music (also called "My House). Most of you may have heard Chuck Robert's acappella under the classic "Can You Feel It" by Fingers Inc, a project of Larry Heard. In fact, Desire Records was the label through where Larry Heard had the opportunity to release "Can You Feel It" with the Chuck Roberts acappella, but the original by Chuck Roberts came out one year before, on this obscure release on Catch A Beat. The arrangements and atmosphere on "Can You Feel It" by Fingers Inc. are far more sophisticated to go with "My House" acappella than "My House" by Rhythm Controll, but this single was the very first place where "My House" acappella by Chuck Roberts came out. The lyrics are very Soulful, emotional - a sort of testament about House Music, the importance of Jack, the true spirit of the genre, and its Universal nature (as you can witness on its whole ouverture "In the beginning, there was Jack / and Jack had a groove / And from this groove came the grooves of all grooves / And while one day viciously throwing down on his box / Jack boldly declared "Let There Be House!" / And House music was born!(...)") The list of artists of different genres that sampled this acappella on their productions is unbelieveable and nearly impossible to mention: House (The Creator), Techno (FEOS vs. M/S/O), Drum n' Bass (Doc Scott, Nu:Tone), Industrial (Revolting Cocks) are only some of those who made use of this magnificent piece of history.

My House to me is the epitome of house. The song just has so much emotion for me, maybe it's all the times I have heard the acappella played by DJ's over the top of some other random record. But for me the original cannot be topped. Cost me an absolute fortune for this record but believe me if you have the chance to buy one do not miss it. No collection is complete without it.

The acapella is a little more than that...! First you have the Chuck Roberts acapella, then you have a short instrumental piece which then becomes the full Can You Feel It version with the accapella over it (Larry Heard is uncredited here!) Basically it is both sides of the Desire release of Fingers Inc plus a little more!

This record is the first & original release of the mega sampled speech : "My House" spoken by Chuck Roberts. It was later re-released on Desire records as "Can You Feel It (Remix)" from Fingers Inc. (Larry Heard). Note these versions owns some singing parts that not features the others releases (This is my house & my music, ...)
