I was very happy to see Andreas re-release this album in 2017, as I never got the chance to hear it when it was first released almost 10 years earlier. The Music of Erich Zann plays very much like a soundtrack, a very dark ambient soundtrack, at that. It reminds somewhat of his previous Automate releases, with quiet, droning atmospheres occasionally opening up to beautiful, sparkly sounds and textures, and every now and then, Andreas singing over a more traditional type of song. Minimal industrial beats make rare appearances here and there, keeping the album from becoming purely ambient - Opposing Forces is a great example of this different sound. I liken this album to a dark cloudy day, where for just a moment the clouds open up to show the blue sky above. This is difficult music to listen to purely in the background, as it's not as repetitive as a lot of typical ambient music, and its darker textures and beats keep edging it towards something more sinister. But for those willing to pay attention, it's a very deep and evocative album, something for those late night car rides across the middle of nowhere.
