Fantastic album from beginning to end. The synths are both sexy and haunting at the same time. I stumbled upon this lp when searching for a specific song I heard in one of Melvin Oliphant's (aka Traxx) DJ sets a few years back. My jaw dropped when I finally discovered it was "Whoever Knew". What a gem! Buy on sight.

Legendary underground synthpop from California (where in suburbia yardsales abound ...) . Melodic, heartfelt, authentic. Every song is effortlessly strong, modern, romantic and mysterious; all hallmarks of any self-respecting synth pop track. Comfortably obscurist , quietly residing in the same dimension as New Order, Depeche Mode, OMD, Soft Cell, albeit in the nether regions where only the boldest and the most committed crate diggers (or gold diggers since their music in general came to be highly sought after and highly priced overall) would venture. Respect sent out to my good friend Mr Scoggin, you are dearly missed.

THE SHORTWAVE MYSTERY – Down and Out in a Town of Yardsales LP US 2010 WS201001 6 Tracks 40'42''In 1983, Gregory Windrum Scoggin formed THE SHORTWAVE MYSTERY in which he did incorporate some of his friends (Jason Wright, Tom Wright and Dave Skinner). As influences he points out D.A.F., Der Plan as well as OMD or Depeche Mode, and in general the early 80’s New Wave movement, which is good as his music was then about incorporate the right portion of melancholy and melody, that make those tracks so substantial and stand up the test against time (at least for us). In 1985, they released oen 12”EP “Pilots” (Good Records, Good-1) which became an incredibly sought-after and high-priced gem in recent years (after it has been hyped immensely on ebay). All tracks on this MLP were recorded in 1983/84 and remixed in 2009/10. There is really no need to describe every song individually, they are all nothing but the most beautiful melancholic electropop songs with rich textures and either almost ethereal or typical synthpop-a-like vocals. The tracks are always still right for the dancefloor (in the club or in your living room), think of For Against, Hysterica Passio (especially A-side), or some Swedish electropop acts from that era like 3 Miles From Here or Royalty, or the German band New Scientists on B-side. For Anna, this MLP is the record of the year so far when it comes to electropop/synthpop and she is looking forward to further tracks coming soon on the already announced CD. Better get the vinyl while you can! LPs come on clear marbled gold vinyl, incl. 11x17 inch promotional poster, are shrinkwrapped and limited to 500 copies.
