London Elektricity slow down their usual quick breaks for a smooth take on "Spirit," but Bugz in the Attic and Leme take up the mantle for their respective mixes. I don't know why "Sound of the Samba" and the Masters at Work seems like the perfect pairing, but there you have it. They wait a full 2 minutes before letting the house beat kick in. Elsewhere, Cotton Club also houses up "Better Place." As smooth as Davies is, he can also teeter on the edge of being boring, but his remixes help rein him in... most of the time. Dixon and Georg Levin let him reach right up to that line on "Runaway Train" (I blame Levin more than Dixon), while Procreation's take on "Lady Luck" unfortunately tips in. Only Child also edges up to that line too with "Lady Luck," but Mark Rae rescues things with the smooth groove of "Blues for You," and Nuspirit Helsinki practice their nu-jazz magic on "Runaway Train." If you like like Afro-Latin percussion and flourishes, turn no further than Da Lata's mix of "Sound of the Samba." A good complement to the original album, even if it shares in the same flaws.
