totally disagree with the other review. he makes it sound like its a compilation of baccara, liquid gold style euro disco, which it definitely isn't. in fact lots of the tracks included were actually played by larry leven, tee scott etc and are not the popper end of the disco spectrum at all. how you can say fantastic aleems, bunny mack and nycc are not "deep, heavy and 'black'" is beyond me. agreed azoto, baby o and two man sound are more European flavoured, but its not the overall tone of the album.

The question is: do you like the lighter, happier (and cheesier) side of disco? If your answer is yes, ok then, this is a compilation to get, terrific no-filler selection, but with a clear and strong (white) euro taste.May i add closer to Saturday Night Fever sound than, say, Larry Levan shit?Mind that you won't find here the most deep, heavy and 'black' side of the business, anyway whether this is a bad thing or not only depends on your own disco tastes.

My reaction to this compilation and the previous volume are the same as yours. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack comparison is dead on. Joey Negro just has a certain kind of positive-vibe, light disco sound he likes, and I imagine it's what sounds good to a bunch of very well-dressed Londoners at whatever club he spins at. In the songs he chooses for these compilations, everything has to be very smooth and polished, kind of glamorous, with lots of melody, lots of strings, a soulful-but-not-too-gritty vocal (almost always in the same high-ish range), and uplifting lyrics. The songs are indeed all very good and many are lesser-known, but you're totally right; from start to finish these comps don't have as much variety in overall sound as you would expect from disco. I certainly don't want to listen to them all the way through, I'd rather just throw the songs into the shuffle-play rotation with all the other kinds of music I like.

Why would that be?Funnily enough, if you really read my review, i'm saying it's a great compilation, after all…

Can you recommend a couple of records of what you term as 'deeper disco'. I'm interested to know what your tastes are. Not sure about the euro-english-white comments. Music is music.
AnnyMars
LOLSure they're American, BUT selected by an English man (and let me add, with a strong Euro-English taste, imho), that tells you something..Mind that i'm NOT saying it's a bad compilation at all (quite the contrary), but it's not the deeper heavier side of disco, if that's what you're after
