I have just been up for the past twelve hours writing and finishing off my dissertation, the readout on my CD player, looks like a haze of early 1990s cheap LCD technology, loads of grey pixels. The track number readouts "3". This track of beautiful ambient techno just loops and loops, and I am diverted away from the thousand and thousand of characters that shine on a background of white. Northerner has just made the track of 2009 in a remix that you will want to listen to time and time again. I was not expecting this at all, the other artists remix and slow it down, Northerner just takes a simple loop and lets it work. Like the sound of a dripping tap, dropping onto a soundboard connected to a PA, inside the steel drum of a refrigerated lorry. Tsssh, dum, dum, dum, tsssssh. Awesome.
