Arguably the greatest triumph of the criminally underappreciated Daphne & Celeste, "U.G.L.Y." mines the same playground-insult formula explored in their previous single "Ooh Stick You" and finds that there's still plenty of fun to be had in upsetting girls with low self-esteem ("U.G.L.Y.--you could make an onion cry"). Radio edit is just that. The Tom Boy mix is the best--a sweeping, trancey take that invites the listener to shout along to its ridiculous lyrics. The T-Total "Make Over" mix serves up a strange, tribal-esque interpretation and is also quite good. Video is a low-budget laugh. Daphne & Celeste...from misunderstood to sorely missed.
