It was recorded on 35mm film, a new high in stereophonic quality when first recorded by the Command label owned by ABC Records. SQN licensed the masters and released to sell the complete 7 record set with libretto for only $19.95 retail in 1975. It was the biggest seller of any complete set of the Beethoven Nine. It sold more than 500,000. copies. A great many were sold through mail order sellers like the Literary Guild and The Readers Digest before online existed. Sam Attenberg
